During a dual meet, divers perform 6 different dives, with 1 mandatory dive and 5 optional dives. For the mandatory dive, a different group is chosen each week of the season- see below for the dives for each week. The degree of difficulty for the mandatory dive is limited to 1.8 For the remaining 5 optional dives, 4 of the 5 groups are required.
In Championship meets (Sectionals and States), divers are required to have 11 dives, all of which must have been competed and qualified (scoring at least a 4.0 from all judges) during the dual meet season.
There are 6 Dive Groups: 1. Forward Group 2. Back Group 3. Reverse Group 4. Inward Group 5. Twisting Group Click here for Degree of Difficulty Table There are 3 positions for dives a. Straight b. Pike c. Tuck
Scoring
Dives are scored by multiplying the sum of the 3 judges scores by the dives degree of difficulty. If only 2 judges are present, their combined scores will be multiplied by 1.5 and then have the degree of difficulty applied to it. If 5 judges are present (typically only at championship meets) the highest and lowest scores will be dropped, and the sum of the 3 remaining scores will be used.
A dive can be "failed" if the fundamental components are not executed. A failed dive will receive a score of 0. Two failed dives will disqualify the diver in the meet.
